Our History, Our Mission
The Charleston Department Store is a complete, full-service, name-brand, soft-goods clothing, sportswear company. Founded in 1921, our privately-held company represents a third generation family business! With two retail locations in the market, and now 86 years old, the company has a dominant presence in the casual clothing, shoe, and WVU Merchantise markets in West Virginia.
In addition to being strong in the young men’s and young women’s fashion market, the company also specializes in name brand Big & Tall sportswear, carrying such well-known names as Cutter & Buck, Levis, Wrangler, Lee, Izod, Columbia Sportwear. With customers throughout the state of West Virginia, Kentucky, and Ohio, and now with the expansion of our internet mail order business, we are serving customers all over the country.
All retail stores are not created equal. In the extremely competitive environment of retail clothing, the Charleston Department Store has survived, flourished, and grown by offering something unique to retailing – we treat our customers properly.
